The Russian envoy to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, has been shot dead after a gunman shot him in the back. Mr Karlov was attending the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition in Ankara when the suspected gunman walked into the exhibition he used appropriate police ID to gain entry into the exhibition.
The gunman has now been identified as a Turkish police officer, Ankara mayor Melih Gokcek said.
Numerous news agencies are claiming the gunman shouted “Revenge” “Aleppo” and “Alluh Akbar” though none of these have yet been confirmed.
